Scientists argued about the artist's cause of illness. A recently
proposed theory has been the illness caused by lead poisoning. The
paints Van Gogh used were all lead-based, and one of the symptoms of
lead poisoning results in a swelling of the retina, which may lead to
the halo effect seen in many of Van Gogh's later works. It has been
suggested that Van Gogh suffered from the brain disorder, Hypergraphia.
The disorder causes a near constant overwhelming urge to write and is
associated with epilepsy or mania.
Thus, the genius suffered
recurrent bouts of mental illness, which led to his suicide. I asked
our specialists in FuneralHomes.com, where they buried the artist. They
say, that Van Gogh's funeral was very modest, and he was buried at the
cemetery of Auvers-sur-Oise in France. I also learned that his brother
who loved Vincent very much, could not deal with the grief and died of
a broken heart six months after the artist's death.
